Re: Daggers and bowies!
I'm more comfortable with the utility of a single edge while still being combat capable. But then again, I don't carry fixed blades on operations much.

Re: What are some daily ways that you practice?
I like to do anything and everything unnoticed in public for laughs at times, things like walking quietly down a store aisle and suddenly appearing around a corner, opening and entering a door silently and without notice, moving things around. Learning what gets noticed and what doesn't. I like to t...

Re: respirators, or the art of not breathing pigeon shit.
A standard half-mask respirator should be sufficient for the most likely contaminants an operative will encounter, like dusts and such in neglected areas. With all the talk of water plants lately, I would highly recommend a full gas mask for that with appropriate filter. Even though you can get chlo...

Re: Camouflage vs. Solids - What You Should Choose
So, this thread was obvious parody of a tired old argument but having returned from NOPCON I did want to bring this issue up in a serious albeit not critical manner. Operating with so many people at night I found was a great opportunity to see this argument in practice with some operatives wearing b...

Re: Quickness, Slowness, and Stealth
I think that all speeds and economies of motion have their place. Sometimes it's good to be slow, sometimes it's good to be fast. Neither is good all the time during the operation. The question is which will draw the most attention and which is more likely to be brushed aside when you have absolutel...

Re: Combat shirts are ace.
Cotton definitely has a place, fine cottons are among the most silent materials you can get. And because it's cheap, if you tear one up you can replace it without too big of a worry. Sometimes you find them in camo patterns too if that's your thing, and because they tend to fade and "fuzz", you can ...

Re: Combat shirts are ace.
Hmm, I wonder if there's a material difference between brands. Mine is completely silent against itself. Like the idea of a compression shirt plus t-shirt, though. Hell in my mind I'd take a regular camouflage long sleeve over the standard BDU/ACU/etc. style shirt just because they fit closer and ar...

Quickness, Slowness, and Stealth
Reading the most recent introduction's mention of parkour got me thinking about how I like to move at night, and I realized that there's really no set way of moving. It all depends on the terrain and obstacles in front of you, as well as chances of being seen. Movement at night is a careful balance ...

Re: observation of the unsuspecting human.
It's a common human fault that can be taken advantage of in many ways: people tend not to pay attention to areas they don't feel they need to pay attention to. You can often hide in relatively plain sight as long as you are somewhere nobody is expecting a human to be. If you ask someone to look for ...

Re: Thoughts on Padlock Shims
I've found that to be the case sometimes. It boils down to whether or not the operative wants to leave evidence of a break in or not. On the other hand, sometimes the idiots mount the hasp in a manner that gives you access to the screws, giving you the ability to open it up without leaving evidence ...

Ghost, if you have a pair of those cut-anything scissors, try using a food can with a large enough flat area to make a couple shims. They're miles ahead of the aluminum ones. Use some kind of flat hammer to smash everything flat into place but otherwise construct the same as you would an aluminum. Y...

Thoughts on Padlock Shims
Padlock shims are devices intended to slip into the shackles of padlocks with loose tolerances, forcing the lockers inward and releasing the shackle. It's the same idea as carding a door where you're attacking a different part of the lock besides the cylinder. As most familiar with the devices know,...

Re: Combat shirts are ace.
The thing with most night ops though is that you're not dealing with the harsh conditions of a battlefield day in and day out. Typically, you come back home the same night. If anything happens like your shirt is torn in half, you are home. You can wear a different one the next time. The cheaper clot...

Mine is an olive color and it has its own "pattern" of a sort just from how they did the material, it blends in pretty well. The urban patterns tend to also have a decent dark gray shade to this section. It's a set back from full camo, but in my opinion the increased mobility while still retaining t...

I wanted to share some basic tricks with everyone that I employ anytime I want to remain unseen but still be aware of what's around me. The goal was to sneak into a room unnoticed and grab someth...
Re: tomahawks
As both an avid woodsman and operative, I am of the personal opinion that a tomahawk is a weapon first and a tool second. Like trying to use a true shortsword as a machete. Sure, it'll get the job done, but it's horribly inefficient and faults will become apparent immediately. That said, I will also...

Agreed with Ghost wholeheartedly. Although it may seem easier to go casual and can take balls of steel to try to go unnoticed near people, it's surprisingly effective. It's much lighter than conventional carriers and plates though that would be required to stop the threats he's expecting to encounter. And the flexibility lends to a less bulky feel which is of obvious benefit to the operative.

Both work just fine. Just make sure your pattern or solid matches the environment. If you're in heavy urban settings with lots of concrete and minimum foliage, use grays and dark urban patterns. For anything else, olive drab and whatever camo pattern matches the majority of foliage.
